Every Sunday I like to write about 3 random things that are on my mind.

Sometimes these things are about business…

Sometimes they’re about life…

And other times they’re just truly random.

So with that said…

Let’s jump into the first thing on my mind this morning.

1.  Be ok with allowing yourself to not be perfect

During our event this week I took a few days off from writing this email.

Which was not easy for me to do.

I want to write it everyday.

And I hate when I have to break that streak.

But in all the chaos of a live event, I just couldn’t do it.

My focus had to be on the event.

However, emotionally this was hard for me to do.

I had to keep reminding myself that focusing on the event was my #1 priority.

But there was still a part of me that felt like I wasn’t doing enough.

Like I should be able to run the event AND write this email every morning.

But that was just me being a perfectionist.

That was me wanting things to go at 100% (even though that’s not possible).

So the big takeaway here is simply allowing yourself to not be perfect.

And being ok with it.

It’s not easy to do…

But your life will be much more enjoyable if you can do it.

Alright let’s jump to the second thing on my mind this morning…

2.  Responding vs reacting

When you run a live event, shit will inevitably go wrong.

Case in point…

On the second day of the event, the hotel royally screwed up the lunch we were serving.

It was supposed to be meat, veggies and salads.

So something like chicken, carrots and a salad would have been good.

Well the hotel decided to basically put out all the ingredients for a sandwich (deli meat, lettuce, tomatoes etc…) with no bread.

It was not what we asked for at all.

So when I saw it, I was furious.

Part of me wanted to grab the manager and rip him a new one.

But I knew if I did that it would completely throw me off my game for the rest of the event.

People would be able to sense that I was upset.

And that would probably hurt their experience.

So I decided there was really nothing we could do to fix it at that point.

So I just let it go.

Was I mad?

Yep.

But there wasn’t much we could do.

So I just let it go.

Like I said this is not easy to do.

Justin from 5-years ago probably would have went on a tirade against the events manager.

And I probably would havee been steaming the rest of the day because of it.

Luckily I’ve made some progress in this area over the last few years.

And the big takeway here is that you always want to respond and not react.

That’s key.

Alright let’s do one more of these…

3.  You should spend your downtime doing whatever it is that you enjoy (even if it’s not productive)

I’m a big believer in downtime.

Why?

Cause you need time away from work.

You need to stop thinking for a bit.

However, one issue a lot of entrepreneurs have is that they still try to make their downtime productive.

So they’ll read a business book…

Or listen to a business podcast…

I used to be like this.

But now I’m the complete opposite.

For example, college football started up yesterday.

And I love watching college football.

So what did I do yesterday?

I cooked up a nice ribeye, and sat on my couch for 4 hours and watched football.

It was glorious.

I didn’t do any work.

I didn’t read a book while I was watching the game.

I was just veggin’ on the couch, doing nothing.

And I loved it.

I want to emphasize there is nothing wrong with this.

Your downtime is YOURS.

So you should do whatever it is that you enjoy (whether its productive or not)

You don’t always have to be “on”.

And you don’t always have to be productive.

Your mind and your body need to do things simply because you enjoy doing them.

Make sense?

I hope so.

Cause that’s all I got for ya today.

Enjoy your Sunday.
