Last week I went through some of the emails I wrote for this list back when it started and I discovered something interesting.

The emails weren’t very good.

Seriously.

And it wasn’t a matter of me writing about bad topics…

Or telling bad stories…

The big problem with my emails was actually something that’s really easy to fix.

Can you guess what that mistake is?

Ah, I’ll just tell ya…

My sentences were way TOO long.

That was the big difference.

My sentences weren’t short and punchy like they should be.

They had lots of commas, and ran-on forever.

Which isn’t surprising…

That’s always been my achilles heel with writing.

But looking at my emails today, it seems I’ve fixed that issue.

For example…

One of my old emails that I ran through the Hemingway app clocked in at a “Grade 7” reading level.

Which is frankly not bad.

You could do a lot worse.

However, if you run any of my recent emails through the Hemingway app, most of them clock in at a Grade 3 reading level.

Why?

Because I write shorter sentences now.

I get to the point.

I don’t try to jam multiple things in a sentence.

And here’s the thing…

You should be doing the same with your copy.

Cause whether you’re writing a sales page…

Or an advertorial…

Or a Facebook ad…

Short, punchy copy will ALWAYS convert better.

Why?

Because it’s easier to read.

Which means people understand what you’re saying.

So they keep reading.

That’s what you want.

You don’t want people slowing down while reading your copy.

Big mistake.

You want short sentences.

And a “punchy” flow.

Just keep ’em sliding down that greased chute as John Carlton would say.

That’s what you want.

And I promise if you put this into practice…

Your bank account will thank you for it.

Enjoy your Monday,
