Here’s the story…
Back in 2017 my friend Dave Sinick had two different cookbooks he was trying to sell…
One was a cookbook called Paleo Plenty which had a bunch of “foodie” style recipes of summer salads, zucchini noodles and taro root chips.
The other was a cookbook called Paleo Sweets which showed you how to make paleo versions of your favorite brownies, chocolate chip cookies and ice cream.
Dave had a lot of hope for both of these books…
So he brought in a top notch copywriter and paid him $15k to write the sales pages.
He also had professional photos of all the food taken, so each page was loaded with mouth-watering pictures of the food.
So everything was in line for these cookbooks to be big winners.
But once Dave started running traffic to the pages…
He quickly realized that these two cookbooks couldn’t have performed more different.
The Paleo Plenty offer (the one with the summer salads and zucchini) turned out to be a huge flop.
I mean HUGE.
It was so bad that Dave was wondering if the cart was broken cause no one was buying it.
But the Paleo Sweets offer on the other hand…
Was a massive hit.
It converted right out of the gate.
And within a few weeks it was bringing in hundreds of new buyers every single day for them.
Think about that…
Both these offers had similar price points…
Both were cookbooks…
And both had top-notch copy…
Yet one crushed and the other was a flop.
Why?
Simple…
It’s because one offer was HIGHLY appealing and the other was not.
The reality is that eating chocolate cake, cookies and brownies is a hell of a lot more appealing than salads, zucchini and taro root chips.
That’s the difference.
And no amount of copy jiu-jitsu can makeup for that.
I mean you could put together an Avengers team of Gary Halbert, Eugene Schwartz, and Gary Bencivenga to re-do the copy for Paleo Plenty, and it’s still not gonna beat the dessert cookbook.
Why?
Cause people like cookies, cake and ice cream way more than they like salads and zucchini noodles.
That’s why.
So the big lesson here is simple.
If you want your offer to scale…
