Would love to get your thoughts on this Justin. I’ve followed your advice on writing email copy and so far in 2022 I’m making around $3k a month on average. So it’s going well. But I feel like I’m stuck. I’d like to eventually get to $10k a month, but I’m not sure what the best path to get there is. Any thoughts?

This is a situation most copywriters fall into.
Especially if you write emails.
You start off writing emails for $50 or $100 a pop, and you get some success.
Maybe you’re making $1k a month…
Or $3k a month…
But then getting to that “next level” of $10k a month seems like a daunting task.
Sure, you can take on more clients…
Or you can see if your current client has other copy needs…
Both of those things will get you to $10k…
But in my opinion, there’s a better solution here.
One that’s easier for you…
And it’s one that still allows you to hit $10k (or more) a month.
And that solution is all about leverage (which is something most copywriters never think of).
So what do I mean by leverage?
I mean at a certain point, you want to leverage all the good work you’re doing, so you can make more money without having to put in a whole lot more work.
So how do you do this?
Well in the case of email copy, you simply make your client’s life EASIER by taking over the management of their email list.
This means you’re not only writing their emails…
But you’re also sending them…
And coming up with sales, special deals and more.
So you’re not just a writer…
You’re a full blown marketer.
Which to me is the spot you want to be in.
I saw my mentee Alec do this, and go from $2k a month to $8k a month (plus now he’s getting a % of the revenue his emails generate).
I’ve seen other copywriters like Troy Ericson, Whitney Presutto, Eric Panter, Mary Bell and Jerrod Harlan do the same.
Instead of scraping by on $3k a month…
They were able to leverage their copy skills…
And start pulling in $8k, $15k and even close to $30k a month simply by managing an email list.
So if I was a copywriter today…
And I was stuck in that $1k-$5k range a month…
This is what I would do.
I would leverage my skills.
And instead of writing emails for $100 a pop…
I’d start managing an email list so that I could make $10k, $15k or even $20k (including a % of the revenue I generate).
That’s a win-win.
Cause I get to make a lot more money…
And my client gets to remove a huge burden from his plate.
So we’re both happy.
