A few months ago, Chris Clark who owns Native Path (a paleo nutrition company) decided to put his head copywriter, Kate Aseltine, into our Copy Accelerator program.
When he signed her up, I could tell Chris was skeptical.
And he had every right to be.
Copy Accelerator is a big investment…
Close to $3000 a month.
So to help ease Chris’s nerves, I gave him a little reassurance…
“I promise we’ll get you a win in the first 3 months, that will pay for the entire year for you guys”.
Chris said “ok”, so I got to work giving Kate some advice on their collagen funnel.
What’s interesting is that their collagen funnel has been working on cold traffic for a while…
Yet when I dug into it…
I saw a LOT of opportunities to make it better.
So I knew we could get them some quick wins.
One quick win we got them right out of the gate was a new article lander for Facebook that Kate said was beating their best lander by 2x.
So that was a nice win….
Next we had Kate implement Stefan’s “AOV Close” which is a big block of copy on your sales page that pushes people to take the largest quantity package you offer (if you offer multiple quantities).
I don’t remember the exact numbers on this but it got them like a $4 or $5 boost in AOV.
So two nice wins out of the gate…
But just last week, I recorded an interview with Kate and she was chomping at the bit to share her newest win with me…
“I got a big, big one for you.” she said…
Kate started telling me how she had been fixing their first upsell.
Which was pretty basic when I saw it.
The copy was short…
And the the offer just wasn’t that appealing.
So I had her apply my OLAF method for upsells to it.
I knew it would help.
And that they’d get a nice bump in conversions on it.
However I had no clue that it would help as much as it did.
In fact, this split-test win is actually the biggest win in Copy Accelerator history!
Kate told me they added “$41 in AOV to the offer simply from changing that first upsell”
I was a little taken back when she told me that.
A $41 boost in AOV is bananas.
And will be a complete game-changer for them.
Funny thing is, they had to actually turn the funnel off cause they ran out of inventory since it was doing so well.
But that’s the power of getting your first upsell right.
I always preach about the first upsell…
It’s probably the most underutilized part of the funnel for most marketers (even really smart ones like Native Path)
So I’m glad to see that they dialed this in…
And that it’s kicking so much ass for them.
I have a feeling they’ll be able to scale this baby to the moon with their new AOV.
So yeh, a big congrats to Kate Aseltine for the biggest split-test win in Copy Accelerator history.
