Nearly 11 years ago, I had a rock-bottom moment where I almost quit being an entrepreneur.
Why?
Well cause my life completely fell apart.
In a span of one week…
My girlfriend of 3 years (who I was planning to propose to) came home from work one night and dumped me out of the blue…
And then a few days after this, my only consulting client (who made up 90% of my income) decided he didn’t need me anymore, so he fired me…
So it was a tough week…
I was moping around, feeling depressed.
And I was scared to death about my future.
I didn’t know how I was gonna pay my bills.
I didn’t know how I was going to eat…
It was just a lot of uncertainty.
Which made me really question myself as an entrepreneur.
I started to wonder if I really knew what I was doing…
Or if I had just gotten lucky all those years before…
I gave serious thought to giving up being an entrepreneur and getting a real job…
Maybe doing SEO for an ecomm company or something like that.
I even thought about tucking my tail between my legs and driving back to Sandusky to live with my parents.
But I couldn’t stomach the embarrassment of that…
Just a few years before this, I was making 6-figures with affiliate stuff…
And now I was nearly broke.
But as painful as this was…
And as humiliated as I was…
This was ultimately the moment that turneed me into a successful entrepreneur.
Why?
Because I had no other options.
My back was against the wall…
And I had to figure out a way to make money fast.
So what did I do?
I hustled my ass off.
I started reaching out to everyone I knew who might need copy, and offered to write copy for them for 1/2 my normal price.
I also stopped procrastinating on a fitness offer I had created months before.
The offer was pretty much ready to go…
The copy was written…
The product was done…
All I needed to do was setup and get it running.
So I sprung into action on that.
And started testing some Facebook ads on the offer for a measly $10 a day.
At first, it didn’t show any promise…
And I was losing $10 every day (which felt like I was having a daily heart attack).
But eventually things “clicked” for me.
I dialed in the ads…
And the VSL…
I went from spending $10 a day to $30 to $100…
Sales were coming in.
And the offer was profitable.
Eventually I took out some credit cards to finance the ad spend, and I bumped it from $100 a day to $1000 a day, all the way to $5000 a day (my account limit at the time).
Sales were pouring in.
And that offer became one of the top sellers on Clickbank that year.
I wound up bringing in over 30,000 new buyers on that offer.
And taking home $103,000 in the first 3 months.
Which was life changing money for me.
I didn’t have to worry about making rent…
Or being able to afford a burrito at Chipotle.
I could breathe a little.
But more importantly, my confidence was back.
I knew I had what it took to be an entrepreneur.
I didn’t just get lucky before.
I actually knew what I was doing.
Now you might be wondering why I’m sharing this story with you today…
Well here’s why…
Almost every entrepreneur I know has gone through a “rock bottom” moment like this.
It’s like a rite of passage.
And while it sucks (really bad) to go through it…
In the end, it’s just a test…
It’s a test to see if you really have what it takes…
The people who aren’t cut out for it, get weeded out.
But the people that push through…
Wind-up with a huge boost in confidence.
You’ll know you have what it takes.
And that you can handle any shit that’s thrown your way.
Maybe you’ve gone through a “rock bottom” period like this already…
Maybe you’re in it right now…
Either way…
I just want you to know it’s normal to experience this.
And you’ll be a better entrepreneur because of it.
So embrace it.
That’s all I got for today…
Enjoy your Friday,
– Justin

P.S. – If you’re struggling, and you’re ready to have your own offer that brings in 7 or 8 figures a year…
Or if you want to be a copywriter making $100k, $200k or even $500k a year…
Then I suggest you join me in a few weeks here.
