A big mistake I used to make all the time was starting a new project simply because I knew it would make me good money.
You don’t want to do this.
Why?
Allow me to explain…
Whenever I’m looking at a new project…
I always filter the project through 3 different lenses.
1. How much will I enjoy doing this?
This is important because there’s a lot of projects that will make good money, but I won’t enjoy them.
I won’t enjoy putting them together…
And I won’t get fulfillment out of the result they produce.
So is it really worth it to be miserable in order to make some money?
Nope!
I want to make sure I’m focusing on projects that I will actually enjoy start to finish.
So this is always the first thing I filter for.
After that, then we get to the money part…
2. What kind of money will this make me?
My second filter is all about money.
So for example if one project could make me $100k over the course of the year…
And another could make me $50k…
And I would enjoy both projects similarly, then obviously I’ll go with the project that could make me $100k.
Cause it’s more money.
Now one thing that’s smart to do in regards to money, is have a “minimum” for how much a project needs to make you.
So for example, my minimum for promoting an offer to my list is $10,000.
If I don’t see the potential to make $10,000 with it, then I’m not gonna do it.
Why?
Cause there’s a whole bunch of GREAT offers I could promote that will easily make me $10,000-$30,000.
So why waste my time on one that can’t do that?
So you should always have a minimum for how much money a project needs to bring in for you.
Let’s hop to the 3rd filter…
3. How much time and stress will this put on me?
The third thing I filter for is time and stress.
This is something I never did when I was in my 20’s…
I just took on every project if I thought it would make me money.
Well, I’ve learned my lesson over the years…
Not all money is created equally.
And there are some types of money you want to avoid.
That’s usually the money that comes with a lot of work and added stress.
For example, I could easily make an extra $10k-$20k a month doing 1-on-1 coaching calls if I wanted.
However, for me that would be a lot of stress…
I don’t like being on Zoom that often…
So having 4-5 coaching calls on my schedule each week is not something I’m interested in.
I’d rather focus on a project that’s low stress, and that doesn’t require so much of my time.
Cause here’s the reality…
It’s not worth it to make a bunch of money, if you’re always miserable.
Been there, done that.
And I’ve seen it happen to friends as well.
Making $3 million a year is awesome…
But making $3 million a year while being constantly strung out, not sleeping, and doing something you aren’t passionate about is not the way to live life.
You can convince yourself it’s worth it for a little while…
But eventually you’ll burn out.
Obviously feel free to do whatever you wish with this advice…
But I suggest you listen to it.
It’s well earned wisdom that came from my 18+ years in this game.
So I think it’ll help.
Enjoy your Wednesday,
