For the last 8 months I’ve been getting emails every week asking my thoughts on AI.
So here’s a few of my unfiltered thoughts on AI/ChatGPT and where I see it all going…
– we are currently at step 1 out of 1000 with AI. However at step 1, the AI is much better at writing copy than I thought it would be this early on
– AI builds on itself, so it’s going to get better at lightning speed. But the big thing to understand is that AI is NOT going away. And you’d be dumb to stick your head in the sand and ignore it.
– I look at AI similar to how things were before the internet really took off in the late 90’s. A lot of people in direct response thought the internet was a “fad”, and said it wasn’t going to replace direct mail. Well we know how that turned out. Direct mail still obviously works, but it’s much more of a “tool” to compliment everything you’re doing online. At some point AI will be the main thing used to generate copy, landing pages, emails and video ads (and the human element of it will be a much smaller part)
– the current copy that AI is generating is already better than what the bottom 20-30% of copywriters can write. This will continue to increase over the years and it will be better than 50% of copywriters, 70% of copywriters and so on.
– Even if AI gets really good at copy, you still need someone who understands copy and marketing using the AI. So in my opinion the job of a copywriter is going to shift over the next few years to managing the AI and editing the copy (instead of doing the grunt work of writing everything yourself)
– There’s currently a number of high-level copywriters (like Stefan Georgi) using AI to crank out winning long form sales pages, ads and emails that are beating controls (and with AI they’re doing it in a lot less time than it would normally take them to write it themselves) So if someone who’s as high level of a copywriter as Stefan is using this, then you probably should be as well
I have a few more thoughts on this…
