I saw an article on CNBC the other day where Grant Cardone said he works 95 hours a week.

Which includes weekends.

That means he works about 13 hours a day.

Think about that…

He’s working 7 AM to 8 PM every single day.

No weekends off…

No time to relax…

Very little time to spend with his family…

On some level he must enjoy this…

But on another level, I can tell you that this lifestyle is really not about work.

It’s about avoiding what’s going on inside him.

I’m willing to bet a pretty penny that Grant buries himself in work so he doesn’t have to deal with what he’s feeling.

Which is probably a lot of unhappiness.

And that would make sense…

I know he’s had alcohol problems…

And drug problems in his life…

So he’s simply replaced his old ways of medicating (drugs and booze) with a new way of medicating (work).

I have no idea if he’s aware of this…

But that’s what he’s doing.

And here’s the thing…

Everyone has ways they medicate.

One of the ways I medicate is by using social media more than usual.

I have a friend who chows down on junk food as a way to medicate.

At one point in my life I was using “learning” as a way to medicate.

I’d listen to self development books on Audible for 3+ hours a day.

I didn’t think anything was wrong with it.

I thought I was being ambitious.

But what I was really doing was avoiding how I felt.

The same way Grant avoids how he feels by working 95 hours a week.

Now I’m not saying any of this to knock on Grant…

I have my own work-a-holic issues as well….

But I bring it up to make you aware of it.

If you’re working 12+ hours a day…

And slaving away on weekends…

What’s your reason for working so much?

There’s no right or wrong answer.

But there’s usually a deeper reason as to why you’re doing it.

You might be trying to avoid something…

You might be trying to prove someone wrong (i.e. if I’m rich, I’ll matter)

You might be scared to lose what you have  (i.e. if I’m not rich, I’ll be nothing).

These are all pretty common thoughts…

And there’s no right or wrong answer.

But it’s worth looking “beneath the surface”…

And figuring out what’s really driving you to work so much.

Cause the answer is usually a lot deeper than “I like to work”.

Make sense?

Hope so.

Cause that’s all I got for ya today.

Enjoy your Saturday…
