I mentioned last week that I’ve been in a bit of a rut for the last two months.
I’ve felt unmotivated…
Like I’m going through the motions…
A few people emailed me to see what I’m doing to try and fix this, so I figured I’d share that with you today.
Let’s dig in…
1. Understand that time is the best healer
This is rule #1. Time tends to heal most things.
And that applies to getting out of a rut.
I don’t expect this to be over tomorrow.
I know it will take a little time.
And I know I’m going to feel down and unmotivated by certain things.
So simply knowing that, and understanding that is crucial.
If you expect it to be fixed overnight, you’re gonna be disappointed.
2. I’m finding new stuff that excites me
I normally lift weights 3x a week.
But this past week, I wound up going to yoga 4 different times.
The hour long yoga sessions helped me clear my head.
And relax…
I felt better than I had in a while.
I’ll probably continue on with yoga for the forseeable future (while still lifting weights) because it’s helping.
So finding new stuff to do has been helpful.
3. Focus on the things that excite you
There’s certain things in my business that just don’t excite me right now.
However, there’s other things that light me up.
For example, we’re having a live event Aug 31-Sep 2nd (details coming soon on this).
The live event has me excited.
Specifically, some of the talks Stefan and I will be doing have me pumped.
So I’m trying to focus on that, since it gets me excited.
4. Get away from social media
This is probably my biggest issue when I’m in a rut.
I just default to numbing myself with social media.
So one thing I’m doing is limiting my time on there.
I’m gonna only allow myself 30 minutes a day on things like Instagram and Twitter.
Why?
Cause Ive found that when I’m in a rut, social media just make things worse.
You scroll through your feed and you think everyone else is having the time of their life.
However the truth is, social media isn’t real.
It’s basically a competition to see who can have the best fake life.
Nobody’s life is like what it looks like on Instagram.
So getting away from that will be helpful for me.
5. Take a trip and disconnect
One of my goals this year was to take 3 vacations to disconnect and get away.
I’m planning one for July.
I don’t have a location yet, but thinking somewhere I can surf, be on the beach and do some yoga.
Possibly Hawaii or Costa Rica…
Not sure yet…
Either way I think it will be good for me.
And it will give me a good jolt before I have to get into the rigors of prepping for our event in August.
So there ya go…
That’s a few of the things I’m doing to help get myself out of this rut I’ve been in.
Like I said, the most important one is simply understanding that it takes time.
You can’t get out of a rut in a day.
It takes time.
And everyone goes through these.
I do…
You do…
And the guy who’s making $10 million a year does as well.
So if you’re struggling now…
Or you feel a little unmotivated…
Just know I’m there with ya.
Hopefully this email gave ya a few ideas to work with.
Enjoy your Tuesday,
– Justin
