Yesterday, one of my first copy cubs (Alec) sent me this text…
Funny enough, now that I’m semi-retired a lot of people have been trying to get me to write copy for them.
One guy in the anti-aging niche recently offered me $60k upfront + a bonus if I could beat his current control.
Which is great money…
And most people would be licking their chops for a payday like that.
But for me, it’s not very appealing.
Why?
Because as much as I love copy…
I hate writing long copy.
Specifically I hate the slog of writing 40-page sales letters and VSL’s.
I always have.
It’s like the final scene in Shawshank Redemption where Andy escapes the prison and has to army-crawl through the tunnel full of “foul smelling shit” for 500 yards.
That’s what writing a long sales letter feels like to me.
It’s a never-ending process for me.
And I don’t enjoy it.
So I simply don’t do it.
Instead I focus on other things that I enjoy (like email copy, and marketing strategy).
That kind of stuff I like.
That kind of stuff doesn’t even feel like work to me.
It’s just fun.
Anyways…
My point with all this is this…
There are hundreds of ways to make money in this game…
You can write copy…
Run ads…
Have your own offer…
But whatever you choose…
Don’t waste your time doing something that you don’t actually enjoy doing.
Seriously.
I know that’s a simple idea.
But it’s one that can have a huge impact on how you feel each day.
Cause if you keep doing things you don’t enjoy…
You’ll start to lose who you are.
You’ll feel like your soul is being sucked out.
And everyone around you will wonder why you’re so cranky.
This is what happens when you’re doing shit that you don’t enjoy.
So my advice?
Find the things that you enjoy (and that make you the kind of money you want).
And focus on that.
You don’t have to keep doing shit you don’t enjoy.
Make sense?
